Finding, Collecting, and Experiencing

The Smithsonian museum takes great pride in who they are and what they do; an affirmation only some of us ever achieve. A few specific thoughts stuck out to me while reading the article. I'd like to explore them a bit deeper. 


"With them we can experience science in much the same way as our ancestors, and with that evidence we can begin to understand what science meant to them."


While the article is about a bunch of old Physics equipment on the surface, its message goes much deeper. In regards to the task at hand, these words are inspiring. We are called to examine each "artifact" we are researching and must showcase it in such a way that it evokes an experience within a viewer. We aren't merely finding pictures and pasting them in a book, we're teaching the viewer about each object. All the while, we mustn't lose sight in the origin of each artifact. 

"It's something we're expected to do and we take it seriously."


This statement seems to sum up how "Design Life" functions in the real world. We are given tasks, whether we like them or not, and we do them to the best of our ability. Anything else that comes out of the experience is purely a bonus.
