For the past week, Jessie Ren and I have been working on the final project for Image Making. Our task is to create a total DVD package, Poster, and Book Jacket for the National Geographic film "Six Degrees Could Change the World". We began with mind mapping and quick conceptual sketches.
We selected a concept we both liked. For this project we have decided to explore the concept of progression, similar to the way they show progress during the movie. We are taking images from natural disasters and arranging them in 6 bands. After choosing the concept, we explored some quick formal compositions.
We both felt that vertical bands were the strongest and also didn't compete with the type as much as horizontal bands did. However, we felt that it was still lacking something. We explored some type options and landed on this:
Taking this main idea, we plan on applying it various ways across the multiple mediums that we need for this project. In addition to this graphic, we also presented a series of blocked out sketches, a few of which are below.
The class responded fairly well to our concept, however there are still lots of revisions to be made. Further, we are still playing in a fairly safe zone. Something is lacking from our concept, and Jessie and I are frantically digging to try to get to the depth of our idea. Hopefully, during our group work tomorrow, it will hit us.
