preliminary font bitmapping

In class, we began designing bitmap fonts. I used this time to decide between two objects: water balloons and swedish fish. First, I made sketches of three different fonts.

I chose to sketch on the computer because it felt "faster" or more efficient. Especially since I draw in pen, I wanted my sketches to look nicer with less mess ups. After I sketched out some letter forms, I chose one font and one letter to build with both objects.

The balloons were difficult to work with. Not only were they a pain to blow up to a consistent size, they rolled all over the place because they were inconsistently blown up.

The fish provided a leaner look and straighter lines. Overall they were easier to work with, although I don't necessarily lean towards the skinnier letter forms.

After finalizing my font decisions, I began photos. I quickly learned that I didn't have enough fish (only 26) and some letters take up to 40 fish to compose.

Looks like I'll have a long evening ahead of me.
